Legislative Advocacy Leadership Training 2009: AALL Day On the Hill
This full-day Legislative Advocacy Leadership Training will provide you with the skills you need to advocate for law libraries effectively on the federal, state and local levels. This year, you’ll have the unique opportunity to join your colleagues from across the country in raising the visibility of law librarians on Capitol Hill. With the 111th Congress promising to tackle new issues and a president who was elected to office on a message of change, it’s time to ensure that information policy issues are on the minds of your legislators! The Advocacy Training is available at no cost, and is open on a first-come, first-served basis to all AALL members who want to become more active in supporting our legislative and regulatory agenda. No specific background knowledge or experience is required.
By attending this year’s Advocacy Training, you’ll have the opportunity to network with colleagues, hear about AALL’s policy agenda, and discover new advocacy skills with Washington, D.C.’s own “Advocacy Guru,” Stephanie Vance. After spending the morning learning the issues and practicing the skills you need to advocate successfully for law libraries, you’ll be able to jump right in and meet with your Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill. Our goal is to have participants from each state and every chapter so that we broaden support for AALL’s policy work by creating a team of dedicated law librarian advocates. By attending the Advocacy Training, you’ll gain the confidence you need to effectively get your message heard on Capitol Hill and beyond.
Building a trusting relationship with your lawmakers is key to becoming a successful advocate. What better place to learn how to develop new relationships with your congressional delegation than our nation’s capital? Please register by June 12 by contacting Emily Feldman at ejf33@law.georgetown.edu.
