In an increasingly multicultural society, how do we define “diversity”? Should it be based on race? Sexual orientation? Age? Culture? What pictures come to your mind when you think of diversity in the United States? Do those ideas change when you think about your professional career as a law librarian? Do you have any idea of how to reach out to learn more about the topic of diversity within the profession or within AALL? Join panelists from the Asian American Law Librarians Caucus, the Black Caucus of the American Association of Law Libraries, the Standing Committee on Gay and Lesbian Issues, the Gen X/Gen Y Caucus, the Latino Caucus and the Native Peoples Law Caucus to
learn more about the diversity that is within AALL and the ideas and goals of each caucus/committee. Engage with our speakers and panelists in a discussion on what diversity is, how each group defines it, and whether there are common goals or strategies we can agree upon as a way to innovate the ideal of diversity within AALL and start the discussion as to whether commitment to diversity is critical to the profession in the new century.
