D-5 Managing Employees Across Generations
Monday, July 27 - 8:45am - 9:45am
Location:
WCC-Room 151 AB
Target Audience:
Managers in any law library setting Learning Outcomes:
1) Participants will be able to identify and understand issues that arise when managing employees from different generations.
2) Participants will explore different management techniques that have proved effective when managing employees of different generations.
This program will address both the positive and negative situations that arise when a manager is overseeing employees of different generations. The panel will also provide effective management tips, tricks and techniques, and will share perspectives from a variety of management experiences. These include:
- managing individuals of every generation (high school to soon-to-be retired)
- managing several Gen X/Gen Y employees who have only been in the profession for a few years
- managing student workers who are one’s own age or younger—who would often rather see their boss as a buddy—as well as employees who are much older
- managing employees who are all Boomers
In addition, Connie Crosby will share insights from her article, “Tao of Law Librarianship: Reaching Across the Generations in the Profession” (www.llrx.com/columns/tao9.htm).
