D-6 Beyond the Walls of the United Nations: Exploring U.N. Databases
United Nations documentation contains a wealth of information about global concerns and international law issues. Legal information is constantly changing and the importance of timely and accurate information is imperative in the field of law. Understanding how to navigate the abundance of information made available in the United Nations sources, including the United Nations Official Document System (ODS), the United Nations Bibliographic Information System (UNBISnet) and the United Nations Info Quest (UN-I-Que) can only enhance a librarian’s ability to retrieve information and, therefore, supply patrons with fast, comprehensive and accurate information. Many librarians are aware of the amount of information on the United Nations web site but are unfamiliar with how to locate and search these databases. Librarians from the Dag Hammarskjöld Library will demonstrate different searching techniques and will also identify and describe new U.N. databases.
