Location:
WCC-Room 146 C
Target Audience:
Academic librarians with foreign/international interests
Learning Outcomes:
1) Participants will be able to assess the benefits and drawbacks of law librarian participation in foreign study programs.

This program will present the experiences of four to five law librarians who have reached beyond traditional roles to teach, direct and administer law study abroad programs in Austria, Brazil, China, France and India. The panel will present the advantages and drawbacks of having law librarians participate in study abroad programs, as well as highlight how a well-managed study abroad program can provide significant benefits to the librarian, the college and the profession overall. Panelists will discuss (1) how they became involved in study abroad and solidified support from their colleges, (2) techniques for developing courses, (3) how their experiences expanded their managerial skills, and (4) the impact of including law librarians in the program on the student attendees. Participants will leave the program equipped to design a plan for assisting with foreign study programs in their respective law schools. The panel discussion will be followed by a short question period when participants may ask advice or add relevant commentary.
