G-5 What’s in a Name? Trademark Searching, Services and Domain Names
As law firms evolve and broaden their practices to include IP groups, the urgent need arises for librarians to quickly understand the areas of law involved and the services available to assist with research. IP attorneys rely on the librarian to help guide them in either conducting a preliminary trademark search or suggesting the appropriate services to use. This program addresses the basic strategies involved in conducting a preliminary trademark search and the creative ways to look at a request. In addition, this program will educate librarians on the services available to end users, allowing them to better serve the needs of attorneys and/or legal staff. There will also be a discussion on common law research focusing on domain name searching and how it fits into a trademark search, including services available and any limitations on searching. The panel is comprised of expert trademark and domain name researchers who will individually address proven trademark and domain name research methods and offer practical advice regarding available services.
