Location:
WCC-Room 146 C
Target Audience:
Library directors, managers and professors/educators

1) Participants will be able to identify six elements of an innovative idea after completing a model assessment during the program.
2) Participants will be able to utilize four techniques for communicating ideas that are understood, remembered and have a lasting impact.

In today’s fast-paced work environment, a law library’s ability to thrive depends on the capacity of its staff to be creative and nimble thinkers. When change becomes a driving operational constant, the role that idea-generation plays in strategic planning assumes heightened importance. Busy library managers don’t have the luxury of waiting for a bright idea to fall from the sky. Managers who recognize the importance of idea-generation and nurture their employees’ ability to spot the core of a innovative idea will position their institutions for a successful future. This program will outline a variety of methods managers can use to identify, evaluate and encourage bright ideas, including the use of an "idea-assessment tool." The speakers will also focus on designing strategies to communicate "sticky" ideas that will be remembered and have a lasting impact.

Speaker(s):
Gail Warren, Coordinator and Speaker, Virginia State Law Library
Jean M. Holcomb, retired Director, King County Law Library
