WCC-Room 150 AB

Librarians who depend on county law libraries for resources

1) Participants will be able to list three main steps toward creating a statewide county law library organization.
2) Participants will be able to develop consensus within the statewide organization to plan their advocacy.

Law libraries of all sizes face challenges when it comes to space, funding and resource management. Public county law libraries face particular scrutiny from legislative bodies seeking to restrict or control how they are funded and structured. Building a coalition to fight off damaging legislation is a valuable tool. Angela Baldree, head of the Ohio Coalition of County Law Libraries, will speak to its creation, organization and purpose in changing the political landscape in Ohio. Mary Jenkins will speak to the future outlook of county law libraries. Whether you are in a law firm that depends on the historical resources in your local county law library, or in an academic library that coordinates services to the public, you will want to be a part of this discussion.

Speaker(s):
Marcus L. Hochstetler, Coordinator, King County Law Library
Charles R. Dyer, Moderator, Consultant and retired Public Law Library Director
Angela T. Baldree, Lake County Law Library
Mary Jenkins, Cincinnati Law Library
