Experience a true jewel of a city—Annapolis, the charming waterfront capital of the state of Maryland. Your guide will conduct a walking tour of the narrow, tree-lined streets of this colonial area. You’ll walk past Annapolis’ exquisitely designed buildings, many of which pre-date 1800, and along the enchanting waterfront. You’ll visit the Maryland State House, the oldest Capitol building still in use in America today, followed by a stop at St. John’s College, one of the oldest colleges in the United States.
From here, it’s on to tour the United States Naval Academy, one of the most beautiful campuses along the eastern seaboard, which was built on the site of Fort Severn in 1845. Your guide will give you an extremely up-close and personal tour of this impressive military institution—you’ll even be taken to the boarding quarters to see just how incredibly clean, orderly and exact their surroundings and personal items must be kept. Additionally, you’ll tour the Chapel, crypt and Naval Academy’s museum. Weather permitting, you may see the midshipmen in Noon Formation marching into Bancroft Hall—an impressive sight indeed!
After the Academy, you will be taken past Government House, Hammond-Harwood House and the Chase-Lloyd House. For lunch, enjoy a delicious three-course meal at Middleton Tavern—the most popular colonial restaurant in town. Pre-selected menu items include many choices, such as the classic Maryland crab soup, Cuban black bean soup, the very famous grilled Yellow Fin tuna steak sandwich, penne con pollo pasta and a scrumptious dessert cart!
Following lunch, you will be able to browse through the many unique and popular shops along Annapolis’ cobblestone streets. Weather permitting, you might want to stroll down Main Street to the waterfront and enjoy the lovely scenery of the Chesapeake Bay.
